 The Hunt Begins
« Thread Started on Jul 8, 2009, 7:10am »

(OOC: This is for you Arrakis, now get off your bum and start rping, lol ;))

Ina’Kale Desseau, the one that got away, Deimos thought as he flipped through her file.  It had been an unfortunate oversight on his part, one he wholly intended to rectify.  She was after all, the only blemish on his record, even if it was a minor one.  Parliament didn’t see the value in Ina, her brothers were considered a higher priority.  After all, Cael was a prodigy, an operative in the making.  Driven to excel and an astute student.  He learned hand to hand combat easily and soon surpassed his older brother.  He killed without hesitation and without question.  And unlike his older brother and head strong younger sister required absolutely no convincing or persuading.  Not once did he resist his training.  Alastyr was a skilled doctor, following in his father’s footsteps in more ways than one.  He had been hesitant in his training at first and required a little persuading but eventually his sense of duty kicked in.  However, unlike the boys whom Deimos had taken an interest in at a young age and molded to his liking, Ina had gone overlooked until later in life. She had been willful even as a young child but that could have been dealt with a lot easier if he had taken up the task in time. Unlike her brothers who had a sense of duty and responsibility instilled in them, Ina had no sense of either. So it came as no surprise that Ina had fled, she had attempted it before, albeit unsuccessfully. Deimos would have pursued her earlier but with the war starting there were more important things to worry about than one little girl who fell through the cracks. He had, however, sent out word that he was looking for her which is how he had discovered she had taken up with the Independents. Though he never got much more information other than that. Not until now.

Ina had a weakness for family, which is why Deimos knew if she heard her mother was dying she would be foolish enough to risk everything to come back and see her. He had hoped to end things there. Cael was well aware of Ina's weaknesses and had Alliance officers lying in wait for her. Cael even picked out what room and on what floor so he could contain her, he had all conceivable escape routes blocked and even managed to lure her into the room alone successfully trapping her. It seemed like she was cornered for sure except for the fact that Cael neglected to account for Ina's insanity. Stubborn to the core, utterly pinned down, Ina refused to surrender. When a small charge was tossed in to disorientate and wound her so she could be taken in, she used the hospital bed as cover and rather than be captured chose to jump out the window, despite being 12 stories up.

Ina had enjoyed her freedom long enough and when she was foolish enough to risk getting caught by visiting her mom in the hospital it gave Deimos the opportunity he was waiting for to get backing to bring her in. The explosion at the hospital along with tying her to a multitude of thefts involving highly sensitive and classified material had give Deimos all the leverage he needed to convince Parliament she was a threat and take action to neutralize her. And he knew the perfect person to send after her, her own brother Cael. Cael would care not for his blood ties to Ina, in fact the fact that they were family only seemed to fuel his hatred. Deimos knew Cael would not hesitate to do what ever was necessary to bring Ina in.

“Shalyx Catlett, that's the name you're sister's going by these days.” Deimos said presenting the data book with Ina's file to Cael. “She's been right under our noses the whole time. Even brought in a few high priority bounties. It's rather amusing how many times you've been practically on top of one another without even realizing it. You must admit she's rather audacious.”

The data book hit the desk with a sudden slap, and Cael looked up slowly towards his mentor, who had just delivered him the most infuriating news ever to bless his ears.
And it was a blessing. Now that they had this information, they wouldn't be trying to find her with the lights off.

Cael's hands straightened out on his desk and balled into fists. The sound of skin scraping together.

Shalyx. Shalyx. "Shalyx." The name rolled off the tongue with malicious ease.
"The authorities needed to be made aware, we need Operatives! Bounty Hunters! Tactical Squads!"
Very suddenly, Desseau was out of his seat, pacing around with his fists still going white at the knuckles. He was starting to rave with anger. But at the same time, excitement.
"What are your thoughts on this?" He asked, if only to appear respectful of Deimos.
Now was not the time for formality and politeness, but dignity must always remain.

Shalyx. Finally. For so long she had become a ghost, almost a figment of his imagination.
At one point he even questioned his sanity, for she was so elusive and invisable to even the Alliance.
But then, when someone stops answering the cortex, and uses a proxy for everything they do - thats when they would be so easy to disappear.
It was strange. It was as if one name had solved so many problems, and furthered his objectives in one sweeping moment.
A flurry of luck.

Deimos smiled lightly for a moment, he was most pleased with Cael's reaction. It was exactly what he had been hoping for. He watched as Cael paced, “I think if you are to take charge of neutralizing your sister, you must not let your emotions get the best of you.” He replied calmly keeping his composure. As Deimos watched Cael's little outburst he couldn't help but muse to himself about how similar Cael and his sister were. They really were cut from the same cloth, despite Cael's normally cool exterior he was very passionate. The difference was Deimos had been able to channel that passion into a force for the Alliance. If only he had taken more time with Ina, she had such potential, he may have been able to turn her into an asset instead of a hindrance. It was a mistake on his part, one he wanted an opportunity to correct. He was looking forward to having another opportunity to break the ever willful youngest Desseau, that is if Cael didn't kill her before he had the chance. Either way he was looking forward to seeing how this little sibling rivalry played out, although the outcome was certain. Cael would prevail. He had no choice but to, Cael would not accept any other outcome. Though it appeared that he needed a little reminder of his duties. Cael would blow up the whole 'verse if he thought it the only way to bring down Ina, and that was unacceptable.

“Discretion, Cael. Remember we must always maintain appearances. The populace must never know what we do to keep their lives from descending into chaos.”

Cael slowed to a halt, taking deep breaths. "My emotions. Yes, I must calm myself. Yes." He murmered, taking in as much air as he could, before sighing it out.
"She must be sat laughing at me, right this moment." Said Desseau, looking up to the ceiling, and shaking his head.
Then, returning his gaze to Deimos, he sighed heavily. "What must I do. What must I do, to have Shalyx brought to her knees."
He didn't just want her on her knees. Cael wanted her in a high security prison.
Or in the morgue.
Either way, Ina' couldn't go free of her crimes. She couldn't disgrace the family like this, not a moment longer.
"Define Discretion."

Cael Desseau always had trouble controlling his emotions.
Always had trouble maintaining that calculating facade that Deimos had apparently mastered.
Admittably he probobly pulled it off better than the rest of his family, but still.
It was not yet to his satisfaction.

Deimos smiled, a cold predatory smile of satisfaction, when Cael made mention of wanting to bring Shalyx to her knees. He really is coming along quite nicely. Deimos thought with pride.

“You have the full support of Parliament, they want this threat neutralized by any means necessary. Do whatever it takes to neutralize Shalyx, but anything that may cause public outcry must not be able to be tied back to the Alliance or Parliament.” Parliament could care less how they handled the matter so long as it was handled without anyone knowing they were behind it. “One must always maintain appearances, Cael, and parliament must always appear as a source of justice and civility in the 'verse. It is our duty to do the dirty work without tarnishing the name of the Alliance.” Deimos reminded Cael.

“Parliament has no preference in how Shalyx is brought to justice. However,” Deimos added when he saw the murderous glint in Cael's eyes, “I’d prefer you bring her back to me alive.” Deimos knew Cael would not hesitate to kill Ina but he wanted her alive. It had been far too long since Deimos had had the pleasure of punishing Ina for her defiance. Ina was not the first person Deimos had tortured but she was one of the most enjoyable. There was something about that cold as steel defiant gaze she gave him as she tried so very hard to pretend she wasn’t scared. Every stifled cry as she tried not to let him see she was in pain. This time his hands would not be tied, parliament would turn a blind eye to his actions and there would be no need to maintain appearances like in the past. He would be able to take as much time with her as necessary and truly test her limits. A sinister smile spread across his lips at the thought.

“Remember Cael, there are many things in the ‘verse worse than death and if you kill a man you are only ending his suffering. There is far more satisfaction to be had if you bring Shalyx back to me alive.” Deimos hoped that Cael’s need to see his sister suffer would sway him from killing her. “Besides, we may even be able to redeem her.” Deimos knew there was no redemption for Ina in Cael’s eyes but Cael’s need for vengeance blinded him from seeing the bigger picture. “Do not fret, Cael, your sister will be punished for her crimes. I assure you. You will see her brought to her knees but this need not be a complete waste.”

Cael nodded with eagerness. "There will be no outcry, the public need not know of this. A marksman should do. Or perhaps we should make this look like a rival criminal's doingl. YES!" The sudden outburst from Desseau was excited but at the same time, held the anger he had previously kept. "What better to get me another criminal, than an even better criminal! A squad of knaves!"
The anticipation and determination poured from Cael.
The man would have Ina by the end of the month. She would be in a cell or a body case.

Cael tilted his head to one side, carefully measuring his mentor with intrigue and a certain caution to him.
"Why would you need the traitor alive? Do you already suspect that she would be your responsibility? She would be in your...juristiction?"
While it was wrong to question a higher authority - and Deimos was indeed more of an authority than he was - in regard to family business, Cael wanted to be the head honcho.

Although in farsight, that would be a joke if anything.

It was very uncharacteristic of Cael to question Deimos.  He very rarely asked why when Deimos made a request of him and Deimos knew Cael’s need for answers stemmed only from the fact that Ina was involved.  “Careful Cael, you should know better than to question my motives.”  Deimos warned.  “There is much you are unaware of.”  Though Deimos knew he did not need to explain himself to Cael, he thought it might help Cael see the bigger picture.

“However, to answer your question, I want your sister alive for questioning. There have been a multitude of thefts involving highly sensitive and classified material, and I do not find it at all coincidental that the materials involved have a connection to your family.  I have suspected for a while that your sister was behind these thefts along with other activities but I did not have enough evidence to convince Parliament until now.  Less than forty eight hours before you attempted to seize Ina at St. Lucy, one of our research facilities was breached and valuable information was destroyed though are systems recorded the information was downloaded to a disk just prior to being erased. There are those who are most interested in recovering as much of the lost material as possible so if Ina is brought in alive, her fate falls to me. Of course the greater concern is preventing her from doing any more damage than she already has. So kill her if you must, but I assure you, you will only be doing her a favor.”

Cael nodded rather gingerly at his mentors sudden dissatisfaction. "Forgive me sir, I shall not do it again." He replied, knowing full well that he should never have questioned him in the first place.
Desseau was unmistakably emotional however, when faced with the prospect of capturing her.
"And you think Ina' was responsible for a break in at a research facility? Surely they would have some evidence that it was her from surveilance camera's or biological markings." Cael was being too inquisitive, he realised this now.
Lowering his head he closed his eyes a moment.
"We must set about organising this manhunt. I'm wasting time just standing here." He announced, raising his eyebrows.
"And I shall not kill Ina', this I promise you."

“It's quite alright.” Deimos replied to Cael's apology. “It is to be expected, your sister can be rather infuriating. However, you must learn to control yourself, you're anger only works against you. Though, I am most pleased to hear that you have decided against killing her.” Deimos added with a satisfied grin.

There was a knock and a young man with a data tablet stood in the doorway nervously glancing intermittently between Deimos and the ground. “Umm...Sir, There's something you need to see.”

Deimos waved him over and took the tablet from him. Glancing over the information he let out a slightly agitated sigh, “I see. That'll be all.” He said dismissing the young man who left quickly without hesitation. Deimos was not surprised by the information contained in the tablet though he was more than a little annoyed.

“Do not underestimate your sister, Cael.” Deimos warned. “It would appear she has evaded authorities on Beylix killing three Alliance officers in the process. The transport escorting a prisoner for questioning has failed to make the rendezvous point and is no longer answering any communications. It would appear your quarry is on the run.”

Deimos reached into his pocket and pulled out an ident card, “You're security clearance has been upgraded, it is long overdue. This will grant you access to everything you'll need to bring Ina in. Assemble your crew, with whom see fit and handle this before your sister disgraces your family any further.”

"Control. My anger only works against me. Right, Right." Cael murmered quietly, looking rather halfheartedly to his mentor.
However, his stare was broken abruptly when a young man entered the room..holding a data tablet.
Examining how Deimos observered the tablet, the man realised he was about to recieve more disheartening news. News that would grip him by the heart.

"Oh for the love of god. Won't someone capture me this woman!" He said shaking his head. But after this outburst he was done. "Sorry..."
Looking down at the ground, Desseau realised it was time to take control. That was the message he was recieving.
"My thanks to you sir. I will see to it that she is brought to you immediately."
Cael took the ident card and clenched it triumphantly. Now he had the way, and the will.
"I will capture Shalyx with extreme prejudice."

Turning to his desk, Desseau swiped the ident card across its scanner, and with wide burning eyes, brought up the neccessary files.
Mercenaries. He would not only notify the incompitant authorities - he would assemble ex soldiers, muscle, cut throats.
After all, who better to capture a criminal than an even better criminal.

And if all else failed. He himself would leave his safe retreat and bring the woman back.

Deimos shook his head slightly at Cael's outburst. He had had the very same thought many a time, though he never voiced it in such a manner. It seemed utterly inconceivable that Ina had been able to elude him all this time. Though, until now she had not been much of a priority, well, not as far as Parliament was concerned and they didn't have a name before. It was amazing how much power there was in a name. That small tidbit of information had been the key that unlocked years worth of information on Ina that despite being right under his nose, had eluded him. There is only so much you can do with a description and an outdated one at that, besides appearances change over time and can easily be changed on a whim. You can hide eye color, hair color even height but a name although it can be changed is traceable. Once someone knows it or it finds it's way onto records it is hard to erase. Now that Ina was a priority and they this new information, it would be near impossible for her to continue to evade capture. It was only a matter of time, a vicious smile spread across Deimos' lips, and Ina's time was running out. He was very much looking forward to seeing her again.

“Excellent. I trust I have made the right decision placing you in charge of this project.” Deimos said as Cael reassured him that Ina would be captured swiftly. “I know you will not disappoint me.” He added as he turned to leave. Pausing at the door before leaving he looked back at Cael.

“Remember Cael, discretion.” Deimos felt the need to emphasize that point again, knowing full well how easily Cael lost control when it came to his sister. It was a unique talent the way Ina seemed to make reasonable, rational people lose control. She'd even managed to make Deimos lose his temper, something he was not prone to doing. “Control your temper, exploit her weaknesses. Do not allow her to exploit yours. Though,” he mused aloud for Cael's benefit, “you both share the same affliction, that nasty temper of yours. Something to keep in mind.” Ah, the Dessau family temper. Deimos mused to himself as he left. It had plagued all the Desseau children, even Alastyr could have quite the temper when it came to certain things.

Cael's fists clenched under the desk, while his jaw tensed to match. Normally someone facing a compliment would blush, or straighten up with pride. But somehow Desseau felt like it wasn't right.
Somehow he knew that although he was being given free reign over this assignment, Deimos would still be watching over him. Possibly working behind the scenes, to ensure his little boy wasn't messing it all up.
And it twisted him so. "Thank you sir, and I must assure you that I will bring Shalyx to justice. I am more than compitant for this assignment." He features remained tense while his voice teamed with an edgy calm.

However, at his mentors advice, Desseau closed his eyes with a wave of fury.
He felt it creeping in. The red waves of anger, that bit deep into him. Planting words in his mouth of discontent and opinion. It made him just want to pick up that tablet and chuck the fucking thing at the.....No. Cael relaxed suddenly, sighing deeply.
"Your concern is noted sir, but I must again assure you. I will not be needing to call in an orbital bombardment to catch this woman. Discretion is my second top priority."
